Anne Arundel County provides Teen Activity Grants to community organizations through the Department of Recreation and Parks. These grants enable local non-profit groups to fund worthy recreational activities for youth in Middle and High School. The programs and activities are designed, planned, organized and supervised by staff and volunteers of the community organizations. |

| History |
The Anne Arundel County Teen Activity Grants program was initiated in 1987. The TAG program was developed in response to the ongoing problems of teenage delinquency and drug/alcohol abuse. It was felt that providing quality alternative activities would be an effective means for addressing these concerns. A cooperative effort between the Department of Recreation and Parks and the numerous outstanding community organizations in the County seemed to provide the ideal basis for operation and the TAG program was established to provide community organizations with the necessary funds. The success of the program is evident by the thousands of teens that participate each year and the National Association of Counties Award, which it received in 1988 and the National Creative Program Award in 1990. The key to this success has been the truly outstanding efforts of the volunteers and organizations within the communities of Anne Arundel County. |
