| 2012 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan |
 |

What is the Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP)? |
| |
Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks is in the process of updating its 2006 Land Preservation, Parks & Recreation Plan (LPPRP). The LPPRP is a countywide, long range master plan for land preservation, park acquisition and facility development. Effective July 1, 2005, the State of Maryland required all local jurisdictions to submit an updated Plan every six years. This round of LPPRP’s is intended to provide a common benchmark to assist the State’s evaluation of each county’s land preservation and recreation programs and thereby ensure good return on public investment. The local plans support the State’s planning visions and qualify local governments for State Program Open Space (POS) funds to acquire land and develop recreation facilities. |
| |
| |
| The Plan will focus on the following three elements: |
- Recreation and parks
- Agricultural land preservation
- Natural resource conservation
|
This 2012 Plan will be prepared by Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks with the assistance of the Watershed, Ecosystem and Restoration Services Division of the Department of Public Works and the Office of Planning and Zoning. The Plan will be prepared in accordance with guidelines developed in 2010 by the Maryland Department of Planning and the Department of Natural Resources. The 2012 Land Preservation Parks and Recreation plan will also include land preservation and park initiatives provided by the City of Annapolis and the Town of Highland Beach. |

Parks are for People – We Need Your Input |
| |
| A critical component of the Land Preservation Parks and Recreation Plan is public input. The County will use a number of methods to gauge public opinion on recreation and land preservation needs: |
- Public Meetings were held on the following dates:
- West Planning Area - October 18 at Arundel High School
- Southern Planning Area - October 26 at Central Middle School
- Eastern Planning Area - November 2 at Severna Park Middle School
- Northern Planning Area - November 9 at North County High School
- Statewide survey of public participation in recreation activities
- 2010 Survey conducted by the Department of Recreation and Parks (click to view survey results
) - This website will be operational throughout the process to inform the public and gather public input necessary to chart a course for land preservation, recreation and park development over the next fifteen years. As the Plan develops, sections of the Plan will be posted for public comment, as well as, the preliminary Draft Plan.

| Below are links to the public meeting presentations that were held in October and November 2011. The Department welcomes your comments on the material presented at those meetings. |
| |
| The 2012 Plan will also rely upon the recommendations in the Small Area Plan, the 2006 Land Preservation, Parks & Recreation Plans and the Greenways Master Plan. Follow the links to those Plans in Quick Links box (upper right). Your opinion on the recreation and land preservation recommendations in those Plans will also assist us with the 2012 Plan. Thank you for participating in this process. |
