|  | | | Mayo Beach Park sits right at the mouth of the South River and the Chesapeake Bay. The park is available to groups on a permit basis for civic and nonprofit organizations, weddings, receptions, cultural exhibits, company picnics and family reunions. Appointments to see the ammenities at the park can be scheduled by calling the park office at (410) 222-1978. | | | | | | | | | |  | Restrooms | | |  | Rental Use | | The selling of tickets to the general public or using the facility for fundraising is prohibited. Use of the facility for renting is for private functions only. No commercial or promotional activities are allowed. Such events misrepresented will be cancelled up to and including the day of the event. The maximum group size is 1000. There is handicapped parking, toilet, and ramp to beach area. The rental of Mayo Beach Park includes the use of the beach, parking lot, and Pavilion (230 maximum seating) with a small noncommercial kitchen, small grills, play area and ball field. There are concrete areas that may be used for outside dancing, eating, and music. Rental is exclusive with the exception of a small craft beach launch area used primarily by windsurfers when wind conditions are favorable. | | |  | Swimming | | Swimming is allowed in certain sections of the waterfront. Mayo Beach Park is an unprotected beach, and swimming will be At Your Own Risk. It is the responsibility of the renter using the facility to provide adequate supervision by certified lifeguards, when swimming will take place. When guards are used, there is a one (1) to fifty (50) ratio for each lifeguard needed for safety of the swimmers. sports access (kayaking, canoeing, kite boarding, small craft sailing, and windsurfing only) is located off the entrance of the park just to the left after crossing the bridge. The park sits at the mouth of the South River off the Chesapeake Bay, on the southern side of the river. Best wind direction is SE and S, but East and NE are also great. North, NW, and West can be OK, but if you break down, it’s a long drift to the Eastern Shore. The launch site has a grassy rigging area and sandy beach, some parking at launch
site, bathrooms, outdoor showers (cold water) and picnic tables. The water is shallow for the first 200-300 meters then drops off. The river swell can get very large depending on the tide. Two-three feet is normal for the winds in the 12-18 knot range and it can get significantly larger in higher winds. The swell is the long rolling variety, but can get choppy with increased boat traffic. The water on the inside is good for beginners and the outside swell is good enough to loop. This site is good for all levels. | | >> Mayo Wind Information and Application  | | |  | Directions | | From Annapolis, take Md Route 2 (Solomons Island Road) South (4.5 miles) to MD Route 214 (Central Avenue). Take 214 East (4.4 miles) and turn left on Shoreham Beach Road at Lou’s Store. Stay on Shoreham Beach Road (1 mile) through sharp turns (3 Mayo Beach signs) to Honeysuckle Drive. Turn sharp right and follow Honeysuckle Drive into the Park. |
