If you have not visited Fort Smallwood Park in a while, you will not believe the improvements we’ve made. Now is the time to gather up your family and come visit us again. On April 1, 2006 Fort Smallwood Park became the newest regional park in the Anne Arundel County Park System. Located on the Patapsco River, Fort Smallwood Park is fully staffed to assist patrons.
The new 380-foot Fort Smallwood Park fishing pier is completed. The previous pier was destroyed in 2003 by Hurricane Isabel. The pier will enhance the park experience for fishermen, birdwatchers, and admirers of local scenery. | |

The historic Cedar Pavilion has been renovated and is now open to rent for groups up to 100 people. Our new playground is now open for play and is also handicapped accessible.
Nature and history programs are offered every month by the park rangers for families and individuals. Groups may make arrangements for a ranger lead nature or program by calling the park office. |

Beginning the last week of February 2007 the “Hawk Heads”, a volunteer group of birdwatchers will start the annual raptor migration count. Fort Smallwood Park has been named an Important Bird Area by Audubon Maryland-DC. The public is welcomed to stop by and join in.
The Department of Recreation and Parks is currently in the early stages of the master planning process for the site to determine what types of recreational, cultural, natural and historical amenities should be included in the park’s final design. |
