Volunteer Opportunities

From planting a tree or gardens to special events, volunteers play an important role in assisting in the delivery of services to the community. Share your expertise or develop new skills, we are interested in your leadership to enhance our programs and services.

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) 2010 Program

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program is a 6 - 7 week volunteer experience with a minimum requirement of 4 weeks. The program serves as an introduction to the working world, provides experience working in a recreation program with children at our summer programs. As a volunteer this is also an opportunity to earn community service hours. Once you complete ALL the requirements for the Counselor-In-Training program you will receive a letter of completion and a certificate of hours earned from the Department of Recreation and Parks. Contact Wendy Scarborough at (410) 222-7313 ext. 3554. CIT 2010 Program application will be available early 2010.

Regional Parks

Anne Arundel County Trails

The Trail Blazers are members of a volunteer safety patrol group that assist the Park Rangers. They serve as extra eyes and ears on the trail, alerting the Rangers to any visitor problems or safety hazards they may encounter. Trail Blazers assist the public and multi trail users as “Goodwill Ambassadors” to the B&A, WB&A, and BWI trails. We are always looking for new members! Downs Park
The Friends of Downs Park is a non-profit (501c3) organization of volunteers who support Downs Park through their volunteer, fundraising and advocacy efforts. Meetings, which are open to everyone, are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Downs Park Information Center. Kinder Farm Park

The Friends of Kinder Farm Park, Inc. is a park advocacy group that supports the park through fund-raising and volunteer activities. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month (except December) at 7:15 p.m. in the Kinder Farm Park Office. Visit the Friends of Kinder Farm Park for additional information. Lake Waterford Park
The Friends of Lake Waterford park are the “brains and muscles” behind the park’s events and activities. Volunteers perform a number of duties vital to the success of the park’s events and activities. If you are interested in volunteering for a few hours (6-12) each year, please call
