Message from the Director

Dear Parents of 2005 Summer Campers:

Thank you for choosing Anne Arundel County, Department of Recreation and Parks for your child’s summer camp experience.  We have planned many fun and creative activities to make your child’s summer a fun and memorable one.  As you may already know, our programs have a SPF 100+ rating, which means the Department is committed to encourage Sportsmanship and Participation, and ensures that each participant has Fun!!

In addition to the packet of information that was sent to each registrant, I want to remind you of a few key points that will enhance you child’s experience.

  • Safety is the primary goal at camp. Procedures are in place to maintain a safe environment so that campers can have a wonderful camp experience in a safe environment.
  • Camps provide age appropriate activities to make participating a fun experience for everyone.
  • Campers are encouraged to try each activity at least one time.
  • When code red alerts and high temperature warnings are issued, programs will not be cancelled, but activities will be modified. Scheduled events may be substituted with alternative activities such as less active games and activities.
  • Apply Sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or above each morning to prevent over exposure to the sun.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing.  Also, wear hats and sunglasses to protect the face, ears and eyes.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, but avoid drinks with caffeine or a lot of sugar. Start drinking fluids before going out into the heat.
  • Campers at sites that do not provide refrigeration should bring non-perishable lunches.

We hope our programs will be an important part of your child’s journey this summer.

Dennis Callahan
Director
Department of Recreation & Parks
