Training for School Age Child Care Providers

Recreation and Parks School Age Child Care Program, is approved through Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care (OCC) to provide continuing education.  Our approved trainers offer a variety of workshops in all core of knowledge areas.  Listed below is a current list of available workshops. Please open the registration and policies link below to register.

Gain an understanding of the relationship between PDD and ASD, signs and symptoms of Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome, as well as strategies to manage the needs of children with PDD.

Gain an understanding of the signs and symptoms of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), as well as being given strategies to manage behavioral issues that accompany ODD.  The relationship between Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder will be explored.

Participants will be given an overview of stress and causes of stress.  They will reflect on stressors in their own lives and how to handle stress effectively.  They will learn techniques for dealing with stress such as how to use a stress journal and opportunity will be given to practice these techniques.

Learn the different types of Bipolar Disorder and how it manifests itself in children.  Gain an understanding of the relationship between ADHD and Bipolar Disorder and be given strategies to implement in order to manage behavioral issues.
