Recreation and Parks School Age Child Care Program, is approved through Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care (OCC) to provide continuing education.  Our approved trainers offer a variety of workshops in all core of knowledge areas.  Listed below is a current list of available workshops. Please open the registration and policies link below to register.

This training will focus on incorporating creative experiences into the child care space.  It will also explore the concept of multiple intelligences, and how creative experiences affect a child’s development.  Participants will take away a variety of activities in the areas of music, art and drama to integrate within their child care centers.  This workshop is appropriate for all levels.

     
Emergency and Disaster Plan Preparedness

This training is given in accordance with SB 356 and COMAR regulations for licensed child care providers.  Participants will identify emergency situations that may occur in child care programs.  Specific populations in emergency planning will be addressed.
Participants will discuss how to identify the roles and responsibilities that need to be considered in the development of an emergency response plan.  Participants will create a written emergency response plan.

1.5 COK hours awarded in Curriculum and 1.5 hours in Professionalism

Participants will be given tools to determine the best possible use of their space whether in their own space or a shared space.  Tools will be given for effectively communicating with the host agency.  Taking into account children with differing abilities and needs within the child care space will be discussed.  This workshop is appropriate for all levels.

This workshop will focus on the varied aspects of a young girls development and social world.  It will explore their emotions, self-esteem, the influence in the media, and societal expectations.  Participants will explore ways they can positively influence the girl bully through role modeling and activities.  This workshop is appropriate for all levels.
