Teen Activity Grants Awards

Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks awarded $20,000 in Teen Activity Grants to organizations throughout the County. The grant money was awarded to the organizations by John R. Leopold, Anne Arundel County Executive and Franklin Chaney, Anne Arundel County Recreation Administrator at a ceremony in the County Council chambers on October 24, 2007.

2007- 2008 Teen Activity Grant Recipients

Annapolis HS Navy Junior ROTC: 
The NJROTC program helps Cadets develop a sense of  responsibility from the program and various types of community activities.  The program activities  encompass a wide range of interests and encourage academic, physical, social and moral development of all cadets, while honing inter-personal, communication and leadership skills.  This chapter is recognized as a Distinguished Unit with the Academic Honors.

Broadneck EP Church Youth Ministries: 
The program is called the 5th Quarter and provides  a positive, drug-free alternative to the students after high school football games.  This  program  gives the students the opportunity to socialize with others, interact with adult leaders, play games,  and have refreshments in a setting that students and their parents enthusiastically support. 

Broadneck High School PTSO: 
The PTSO provides activities in a safe, drug/alcohol free,  fun-filled atmosphere for students during the prom season.  The students are involved with the  planning and the prom breakfast has been a success for many years.

Calvary Chapel Teen Activity Program: 
The mission and goals of the Teen Activity Program is to provide healthy, positive and encouraging programs that enhance the moral, spiritual  and physical growth of our community teens.

Chesapeake High School PTSA: 
The PTSA of Chesapeake HS provides events for students  during the prom season.  Planned activities around the prom celebration are provided a safe, alcohol  and drug free environment.

Friends of Joe Cannon Stadium: 
The Friends of Joe Cannon Stadium is an organization  whose mission is to promote and support amateur baseball, primarily in Anne Arundel County.   The Friends group sponsors High School baseball competitions at the Stadium.

Handicapped Athletic Program of Anne Arundel C
The intent of this program is to augment the activities available to the developmentally disabled so that they can continue to develop  their motor skills' and have fun, in their quest for quality of life.

Harbour School Teen Social Club: 
The Social Club provides students with disabilities the opportunity to participate in a variety of adult supervised social and enrichment activities.  The activities serve as a format for the students to hone their social skills and to negotiate their community living experiences.

Southern High School Music Boosters: 
The Southern High School Music Boosters, aim to  promote the welfare of the Southern High School Music program in conjunction with providing  musicians with an outlet to perform.  The Boosters offer a safe, drug/alcohol free coffee house for  students to express their artistic abilities. 

Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County: 
The Volunteer Center is expanding its services to youth with a summer program where the “activity” is volunteering. This “Summer  Serve” program is designed to help rekindle community spirit by encouraging young people to become actively involved in making their communities a better place. 

YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County: 
The organization sponsors activities for  the teen parents enrolled in programs at the West County Family Support Center. The activities help the participants overcome many of the barriers that prevent them from trying new experiences.
