Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Sports Alliance presented the Sportsmanship Awards during the General Assembly at the Maryland State House, in Annapolis. Award recipients are Anna Kennedy (Youth) and Chris Rock (Coach).
Anna Kennedy is a feisty 10 year old who has been playing field hockey and lacrosse for Crofton Athletic Council for the past four years. The heart inside this child belies the lion within. She leads by example but her great work ethic is infectious to both her teammates as well as opponents. She embodies all that a youth athlete should be: hardworking, tough, fair, committed, sweet and fun!
Chris Rock has been a dedicated volunteer coach with United Youth Club. At the beginning of each season, he has each girl set a goal for themselves and helps them realize it. As a coach, he not only recognizes the player who completes the play, but the one who starts it and those in between. What makes Chris truly unique and the classic volunteer is he has no children in the organization! ”When it comes to good sportsmanship, actions speak louder than words," states Director of Recreation and Parks Frank Marzucco.
Through their actions, Anna and Chris have earned the respect and appreciation of their teammates, opponents, coaches and officials. They are true winners! The event is co-sponsored by Speaker of the House, Mike Busch. |
