| Michael Vennik is one of those special young people who have overcome a variety of obstacles to become a great young man. Michael has not allowed a physical disability slow him down in his love of playing baseball. He has learned the game from both the spectator and player role. Michael plays first base on his knees because his legs are not available for his use. As a runner approaches, Michael is always ready with encouragement whether the runner is approaching in a wheelchair or with a lopsided gate or has lost their way. He also hits and runs the same way with determination and always a smile. There are no losers in the game he plays. When discussing the Orioles with Michael, he can tell you every player and all their stats. Michael also has attended Mayo Day Camp for more years than we can remember. He is an inspiration to not only the campers, who he is always encouraging to do their best, but also the staff who realize what a great role model and person he is. |

| Tim Lang has been coaching soccer at Monsignor Slade Catholic School (MSCS) for approximately 10 years. Tim has also been coaching lacrosse at CYLA for a number of years and has referred as well. Additionally, Tim is the outgoing soccer commissioner for MSCS where he has served in that capacity for 5 years (while concurrently coaching a team as well). He is responsible for securing coordinating and coaching for the entire soccer program at Monsignor Slade Catholic School, which provided an opportunity for more than ½ of Slade students to participate in the sport. Tim has always been a vocal advocate for the kids, often expanding the program and adding teams so as to not ever turn a child away who wants to don the cleats and put on the shinguards. |

| Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks’ Sports Alliance |
The Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks’ Sports Alliance is a consortium of Recreation and Parks Departments, official’s organizations and youth sports associations in the Mid-Atlantic region. The mission of the Alliance is to develop and communicate a consistent message that organizations and their players, coaches and spectators will be held accountable to a code of conduct that promotes sportsmanship and keeps recreational competitive and non-competitive sporting activities in proper perspective. The purpose of this event is to recognize both young athletes and coaches that have displayed a consistent commitment to positive sportsmanship during their participation in athletics. Each member organization designated one adult and one student for the sportsmanship award. |
