The Joe Cannon 5K Run and Fun Walk was held on Saturday, March 24th at Joe Cannon Stadium at Harman’s Park in Hanover, Maryland.

The Joe Cannon 5K Run and Fun Walk brings together the community in support of programs that provide recreation opportunities for youth of all abilities. The event, hosted by Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, benefits Recreation Deeds for Special Needs Inc. and the Friends of Joe Cannon. Registration began at 8:00 a.m. under rather dreary skies but by the start of the race the rain had stopped and the racers took off. The walkers started soon after. The Joe Cannon Cup was presented to first overall male and female. The Paul Kingston Trophy for first male and female County Employee. First and Second trophies were given to male and female runners by age categories. Fund Raising awards were given to the highest individual and group who gathered the most money to support the causes. The County Executives office won the Anne Harris Award for a group. Jessica Burnett won the Recreation Deeds for Special Needs Award for an Individual.

The goal for the day was to raise enough money to send 20 youth to summer camps as well as assist with scholarship to other Recreation opportunities offered through the Department of Recreation and Parks and support the Friends of Joe Cannon activities.
