Shoplifting/Assault - Annapolis

On July 29, 2014 at approximately 9:31 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the Safeway grocery store at 2635 Housley Rd., in Annapolis, for a reported shoplifting that had just occurred and the suspect had pepper sprayed store employees while fleeing the store.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the store general manager and grocery manager who both had been pepper sprayed by the suspect as the suspect fled the store.  The two managers stated that a white female and black female had entered the store and placed several DVD’s into a purse they had brought into the store. When the two suspects attempted to leave the store without paying for the stolen merchandise, the store employees approached the suspects.  The white female pushed past the employees and the black female suspect pepper sprayed the two store managers as the two suspects fled from the store and got into a silver Dodge vehicle.  The fire department responded to treat the store employees who were sprayed with pepper spray but they refused medical treatment.

The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling towards Defense Hwy. and an officer checking the area saw the suspect vehicle traveling on Defense Hwy. near Crownsville Rd. The officer made a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle that was being driven by the white female suspect. When the suspect vehicle stopped the right front passenger, the black female suspect, fled on foot from the vehicle.  After a short foot pursuit, the officer was able to take her into custody.  The white female suspect remained with the suspect vehicle and was also taken into custody. The DVD’s with an approximate value of $260 that were taken from the store were located in the suspect vehicle and returned to the store.

The suspect, Martina Queen, initially gave officers a false name but later provided her true identity and was found to have an open arrest warrant on her. She was recently profiled on the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s #WantedWednesday feature for a similar crime.
