On Monday, May 14, 2007, an individual contacted Detective Andrew Wayson of the Anne Arundel County Police Missing Persons Unit. The reporting person advised Karen Beth Kamsch, had been missing from 51 Wishing Rock Road, Pasadena, Anne Arundel County, Maryland since the winter of 1976. The reporting person indicated Karen Kamsch had moved in with her grandmother, Olga Kamsch, at the Wishing Rock Road address after having problems with her family.
Investigation revealed that during an unknown winter month in 1976, Olga Kamsch was called by school officials and told that Karen Kamsch was absent from school. Olga Kamsch responded to the residence and discovered that Karen Kamsch was not home. Upon checking the residence, Olga Kamsch discovered Karen Kamsch’s personal belongings, along with her winter coat, were still in her room. It had been alleged that Olga Kamsch (now deceased) and Karen Kamsch’s father, George Norman Kamsch called the police who took a missing persons report, but no records have ever been located listing Karen Kamsch as a missing person.
Detectives checked numerous computer databases for Karen Kamsch and was met with negative findings. On Tuesday, May 15, 2007, Detective Wayson took a missing persons report for Karen Kamsch.
An investigation was initiated into Karen Kamsch’s disappearance. A birth certificate was obtained and indicated on January 19, 1962, Karen Beth Kamsch was born in Baltimore. School records indicated Karen went to the Brooklyn Park Senior School in June 1976. A check through various computer systems has been unable to verify Karen Kamsch’s existence since 1976.
Detectives from the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Homicide Unit have conducted numerous interviews with family, friends, and schoolmates of Karen. Through these interviews, information has developed that leads detectives to suspect that Karen’s disappearance is suspicious in nature and fear she was the victim of a homicide.
From the information obtained during the investigation, a search and seizure warrant was obtained for 51 Wishing Rock Road, Pasadena, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. On Wednesday, August 29, 2007, the search warrant was executed at 51 Wishing Rock Road. Various resources were called in to assist the Anne Arundel County Homicide Unit with the search of 51 Wishing Rock Road.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department is requesting that anyone with information regarding the disappearance of Karen Beth Kamsch please contact Detective Jason Dipietro of the Homicide Unit at 410-222-3415. Individuals also call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP, where they can also remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for this murder.
