Drug Arrest/Handgun Violation - Pasadena

On June 30, 2014 at approximately 12:35 a.m., officers from the Northern District were on foot patrol in the 7800 block of Levy Court in the Freetown Community of Pasadena when they came upon a group of three males who were congregating in an area clearly posted no loitering.  As officers approached the individuals, they detected the odor of burnt marijuana.  Officers identified themselves as police officers as they approached the group, and ordered the individuals to remain where they were.  The three males ignored the commands and began to run. Officers observed one suspect discard a handgun and suspected drugs from his waistband before fleeing towards Whitaker and New Freetown Road, where he was ultimately apprehended after a brief foot chase.  The other two suspects fled into one of the nearby apartment buildings, where officers lost contact with them.

Officers recovered 32 individual bags of crack cocaine, (total weight 7.65g) a Tarus 38 special handgun fully loaded with five rounds of .38 caliber ammunition and $100 in U.S. currency from the suspect who was apprehended. Through investigation, the recovered handgun was determined to have been reported stolen from an address in Pasadena in January of 2014.  The suspect was charged with Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Failure to Obey a Lawful Order, Wearing/Carrying a Firearm, Possessing a Stolen Firearm, Under 21 Possessing a Firearm, Controlled Dangerous Substance Distribute with a Firearm, Possessing a Firearm during a Drug Trafficking Crime, Wear/Carry a Dangerous Concealed Weapon, Firearm use in a Felony Crime, Possession CDS not Marijuana, and CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics.
