ATTEMPTED COMMERCIAL ROBBERY                                                       LINTHICUM

On March 5, 2013, at approximately 10:42 p.m., officers from the Northern District were in the 400 block of Camp Meade Road South in Linthicum when their attention was drawn to a disturbance taking place inside the Royal Farm Store there.

Detectives observed a man involved in some sort of a struggle with the clerk. Before they could approach, the subject ran out of the store and entered into a gold-colored Buick. Detectives followed the car and a call was immediately dispatched via police radio for a robbery that just occurred at the store. Consequently, detectives stopped the car on Williams Road in Ferndale and detained the driver. An officer responded to the store and spoke with employees, who relayed that the suspect entered the store, pretended to make a purchase and reached over and attempted to grab money after the clerk opened the register. A struggled subsequently ensued between the clerk and suspect, resulting in the suspect being unable to obtain money from the business.

The clerk was transported to the car stop on Williams Road and positively identified the individual there as the man who attempted to rob the store. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with attempted robbery and related offenses along with traffic charges. No booking photo is being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Suspect: Sherman Jerome Artis, 50, of 1522 Florida Avenue, Severn, Md
