On March 13, 2013, at approximately 11:07 p.m., members of the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of Hammonds Ferry Road and Evelyn Avenue in Linthicum for a report of a serious single vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, first responders located a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette at rest against a utility pole. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Harry Franklin White. A 32-year-old female was discovered unresponsive in the front seat passenger of the Chevrolet. Both occupants of the vehicle were treated on the scene by paramedics from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. It was determined that Mr. White and the female passenger suffered critical injuries as a result of the crash. Both subjects were transported to the Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment.
The initial investigation indicates that the Chevrolet was traveling north on Hammonds Ferry Road prior to the intersection with Evelyn Avenue when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, lost control and traveled off of the road through a yard on Hammonds Ferry Road, ultimately striking a utility pole. Due to the severity of the crash, investigators from the Traffic Safety Section assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Preliminarily, it appears that reckless driving and excessive speed were possible contributing factors in the crash. The identification of the female passenger is pending the notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
