Family Navigator

The Partnership is recruiting for a full time Family Navigator to serve the City of Annapolis. Family Navigation is a time-limited service that involves approximately twelve hours of contact over a 30 - 45 day period between family members who are seeking assistance and the Family Navigator. Navigator Job Description

 

This full time, contractual position navigates through services and programs for families in the City of Annapolis. Families can self-refer or may be referred through other child serving agencies or community members. Family Navigation is a time-limited service that involves approximately twelve hours of contact over a 30 - 45 day period between family members who are seeking assistance and the Family Navigator.

 

Qualifications

 

A. Has a bachelor's degree in a behavioral sciences field,

or

B. A combination of at least three years work, education, training, or experience; and

C. The following skills and abilities:

 

a.       Effective communication, written and oral

b.      Knowledge of the City of Annapolis

c.       Experience with available resources and services in Anne Arundel County

d.      Ability to work independently

e.       Ability to work with families of diverse cultural, religious, racial, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds

f.       Ability to maintain personal boundaries

g.      Ability to adapt and assimilate new information as resources, laws, and policies evolve.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Respond to phone inquiries
  2.  Facilitate a process to:
    1. Identify strengths and needs;
    2. Clarify and prioritize the problem(s);
    3. Provide emotional support;
    4. Identify available resources, both formal supports and natural supports;

 

  1. Facilitate family access to resources (public and private sector):
    1. Coach and support families
    2. Provide  guidance in completing forms and applications
    3. Review documents to ensure family understands; documents include but are not limited to:

 

i.      Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)/504 Plans

ii.      Mental Health Assessments

iii.      Court Orders

d. Empower families to articulate their concerns and needs effectively

 

Special Conditions or Requirements: 

  • Must have reliable transportation: required to travel to attend meetings, activities and programs; current Maryland driver’s license and insurance.
  • Must have an approved criminal background check.
  • Must be able and willing to schedule work in a flexible manner, including some evenings and weekends.
