Car Preparedness

Your car is a key to your safety if you need to evacuate from a hurricane or other disaster.  Here are some tips for what to do with your automobile.

  • Make sure you maintain a full tank of gas in your car
  • You should fill the tank as soon as a Tropical Storm forms near our coast and keep it full
  • Safest place for your vehicle is in a garage or carport
  • Park your car as close to your residence as possible and away from power lines or trees
  • Make sure your tires are fully inflated and the battery is charged - you may need your car radio for vital information
  • Keep a small hurricane kit as a back-up to your hurricane plan
