TOMORROW: Homeless Resource Day in Anne Arundel County

Publish Date: 03/15/2013

Today is last chance to donate food and toiletries

Annapolis (March 15, 2013) - The 6th Annual Homeless Resource Day will be held tomorrow at Glen Burnie High School, starting at 8:30 a.m. The last donations of food and toiletries will be accepted tonight from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the site.

"This event has been very successful in helping people get back on their feet and off the street," said Marcia Kennai, Director of the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services. "The economy has been very difficult and we have seen a significant impact on children and families. Homeless Resource Day started six years ago and provides a place where people can obtain a host of services, from something as simple as a haircut to assistance with getting a state I.D., birth certificate, job placement, and housing."

Adults and families can access transportation, medical services, housing, and job assistance, as well as personal hygiene and quality of life resources. While these services are commonplace for most residents, the homeless often have a difficult time accessing them. Our Partnership Board to End Homelessness in Anne Arundel County has worked to create this event every year. We have 80 service providers participating from government, non-profit, schools, and individuals. Over 450 volunteers assist this day serving as guides, greeters, translators, and discharge personnel.

If you have questions about this event, call us at 410-269-4749. Volunteer registration is closed, but if you know someone who is homeless, or about to become homeless, please encourage them to attend.
