Annapolis, Maryland (May 28, 2014) – The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works is investigating a large sanitary sewer overflow that occurred last night at the Mill Creek Pump Station.  The spill has been contained, however, the cause of the overflow and the amount of wastewater that entered Mill Creek has not been determined.   The spill started at approximately 10:26 p.m. and is expected to exceed 10,000 gallons.

The affected area was limed and vacuumed.  Any necessary clean up activities will continue today along with the investigation to determine the cause of the overflow and the amount of wastewater lost.  Anyone coming in contact with the affected ground is advised to immediately wash well with soap and warm water.  Clothing should also be washed.

DPW officials will provide additional updates when the cause and the amount of wastewater have been determined.
