County Executive Neuman Opens Cooling Centers

Annapolis, MD (July 18, 2013) — County Executive Laura Neuman activated Cooling Centers this morning to offer a respite from extreme temperatures.  Cooling Centers will be open Thursday, July 18th and Friday, July 19th.  All of Anne Arundel County’s Senior Activity Centers, County Library Branches, and Police District Community Rooms will operate as Cooling Centers.


The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory effective until 7pm this evening.  Heat indices will likely exceed 100 degrees both days. 


Senior Activity Centers will be open from 8am-4:30pm, Libraries from 9am-9pm today and 9am-5pm tomorrow, and Police District Community Rooms are open at all hours.

Cooling Centers provide the following: air conditioned facilities, bathrooms and water.  Those needing transportation should call the Department of Aging and Disabilities Transportation Department at 410-222-4826, which is operational from 8am-4:30pm.
