Annapolis, MD (February 6, 2014) – Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced recipients of the Local Development Council (LDC) Community Grants for Fiscal Year 2014. The grants, administered by the LDC, were awarded to a cross section of organizations from a hospice to homeowners associations to a shelter for homeless individuals.

“While the grants awarded are not tremendous amounts, they are meant to be impactful,” said County Executive Neuman. “We applaud each of the recipients and hope these awards encourage them to keep up the good work.”

The LDC was established after the opening of Maryland Live! Casino on June 6, 2012, and consists of 15 members appointed by the Anne Arundel County Executive, in consultation with the State Senators, State Delegates, and County Councilmen who represent the communities surrounding the facility.

The LDC reviews the community grant applications from local groups and non-profit organizations that exist or operate within a 3-mile radius of the casino. Approved grants are as a result of revenues generated by MD Live! Casino. Grant applications are submitted in the broad areas of community development and beautification; activities and services for children, youth, and vulnerable populations; and workforce/skills development.
