County Executive Laura Neuman Honors Local Educators in Recognition of National Teacher Appreciation Week

Publish Date: 05/07/2014

Annapolis, Maryland (May 7, 2014) — In observance of National Teacher Appreciation Week,  May 5-9, Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman is highlighting her gratitude for the county’s public and private educators this week.

“Our school system is a model for the entire state, and that is largely because of the relentless effort and dedication our teachers put forth on a daily basis,” said County Executive Neuman. “I would like to thank each and every teacher in Anne Arundel County for the invaluable investment they are making in our next generation of community leaders, our children.”

From preschool instructors to high school teachers, all 5,600 county educators play integral roles in the development and success of county students, and each of them is worthy of recognition for the unparalleled work they do. Last month, Broadneck High School social studies teacher Christina Houstian was honored as Anne Arundel County’s 2014 Teacher of the Year, and will represent the county this fall when the Maryland Teacher of the Year is selected.

“I believe our educators’ hard work should be rewarded not just one week out of the year, but year-round, and have included in my Fiscal Year 2015 budget proposal a 3 percent pay increase for teachers over what was funded in Fiscal Year 2014,” said County Executive Neuman. “Our teachers are our school system’s greatest asset, and an investment in them is an investment in our children.”
