Annapolis, Maryland (July16, 2013) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced the appointment of Walinda “Linda” West as Director of Communications for Anne Arundel County.
“I am excited to have Linda join our team,” said County Executive Neuman. “We have worked together in the past, and I know firsthand that her extensive background in communications and public affairs will be a valuable addition to our team.”
West most recently worked for the Howard County Economic Development Authority as Director of Communications, where she oversaw public affairs and the strategic communications work of the organization.
Prior to that, West worked for nearly seven years in the Office of Public Affairs at the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service as a senior writer and later oversaw industry and consumer engagement, along with a team of writers. She has also held top communications or media relations positions at numerous non-profit and government agencies in Maryland and Washington, D.C., including Maryland Science Center; the American Federation of State County Municipal Employees; Maryland Department of Human Resources; Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development; Maryland Lottery; Maryland Higher Education Commission; and the National Association of Black Journalists.
West has also served as a writer for a number of print and broadcast media around the country, including locally at the Annapolis Capital, where she covered community news.
West has a degree in Communications from Eastern University, a Certificate in Negotiation from Harvard/MIT and advance coursework in strategic communications and media relations.
Her appointment is effective July 15, 2013.
