County Executive Laura Neuman Announces Superintendent Terry Kokolis Selected to Receive the Carl Robinson Award

Publish Date: 06/06/2013

Awarded by the Middle Atlantic States Correctional Association
Annapolis, Maryland (June 6, 2013) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced that Detention Facilities Superintendent Terry Kokolis has been selected to receive the prestigious Carl Robinson Award.
“I congratulate Terry on being honored,” said County Executive Neuman.   “Terry is a hands-on leader who brings professionalism and compassion to his job which is not always easy given the challenging circumstances he faces on a daily basis.”
Kokolis was selected to receive the Carl Robinson award by the Middle Atlantic States Correctional Association (MASCA).  MASCA is the leading regional interdisciplinary organization for professionals in the related fields of probation, parole, juvenile justice, and corrections. Their membership includes professionals at the state, county, and federal levels, primarily in the seven member Mid-Atlantic jurisdictions (Connecticut, Delaware District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania).
The award is presented to a professional who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and made significant contributions to the corrections field.  It is named for Warden Carl Robinson of the State of Connecticut, who served on the MASCA Board of Trustees.
Kokolis oversees the County’s two detention facilities at Jennifer and Ordnance Roads.  The Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards (MCCS) has audited and awarded both facilities with 100% compliance based on state and national standards for correctional facilities.
Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Services’ vision is to serve the citizens of the County by professionally managing safe and secure correctional facilities and offering programs and services to pretrial and convicted individuals which support successful re-entry to the community.
