County Executive Laura Neuman Announces Recipients of the 2013 Community Support Grants

Publish Date: 08/08/2013
Annapolis, Md. (August 8, 2013) – Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced that the Video Lottery Facility Local Development Council (VLFLDC) has selected 11 recipients to receive a total of $100,000 in community support grants, derived from the Maryland Live! Casino gaming tax.

“I’m pleased to see organizations in our local area get the financial support they need,” said County Executive Neuman. “Maryland Live! is clearly showing that they are true corporate citizens, and the real winners are Anne Arundel County residents.”

The top-funded projects include:

  • The Villages of Dorchester received $22,725.80 to purchase street lights and a security camera system.
  • The Boys & Girls Clubs were given $15,000 for operating funds for a Severn location.
  • The PTA from Severn Elementary School obtained $15,000 for additional technology purchases such as iPads.
  • Hebron-Harman Elementary School PTA received $10,000 to create an outdoor learning space and purchase iPads.

Other grant recipients include: The Provinces Civic Association, Quail Run Community Association, Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Rob’s Barbershop and the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.

“The purpose of these grants is to not only benefit the local communities but also to have an impact on the greater region,” said Michael Caruthers, Chairman of the Local Development Council. “We look forward to being able to expand the reach of these grants for many years to come.”

“We are thrilled that the local impact monies generated from Maryland Live! Casino are supporting so many worthwhile community groups and programs in Anne Arundel, not to mention providing for critical new funds for the police and fire departments and our schools,” said Joe Weinberg, Managing Partner of The Cordish Companies. “Maryland Live! has become one of the largest employers and taxpayers in the State and nothing makes us prouder than to see these funds supporting and enhancing communities in our area.”
