Annapolis, Maryland (September 13, 2013) – The Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning (OPZ) today announced plans to hold a public outreach meeting to present plans for a revitalization study along Mountain Road in Pasadena.
“This is an ideal opportunity for residents in the Pasadena area to learn more about the study and the benefits of commercial revitalization,” said Mary Burkholder, Acting President & CEO/Director, Commercial Revitalization Initiative.  “Commercial revitalization improves communities, reduces blight, increases property values, and minimizes sprawl through reuse of infrastructure and redevelopment of existing buildings.”
OPZ is working in coordination with the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC), Community and Constituent Services (CCS), and the Pasadena Business Association (PBA) to identify feasible roadway and pedestrian/bicycle improvements that allow safer access and promote economic vitality along the Mountain Road corridor.
In 2001 and 2002, Anne Arundel County adopted legislation to stimulate private investment and encourage revitalization in older commercial and industrial areas. The legislation targets vacant, underutilized commercial properties in specially designated areas of the County.  It provides greater redevelopment opportunities in older commercial areas by allowing expanded uses in certain zoning districts.  The Mountain Road corridor is one of the 16 designated revitalization districts in the County.
