Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman Seeks Organic Tenant Farmer for Dairy Farm

Publish Date: 04/10/2014

Issued Request for Letters of Interest

Annapolis, Maryland (April 10, 2014) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman and the Office of Central services today announced that a Request for Letters of Interest (RLOI) was issued this week in an effort to find an organic tenant farmer for the Dairy Farm in Gambrills.

“I understand and appreciate that the communities surrounding the Dairy Farm want to keep the farm organic,” stated County Executive Neuman. “I agree that every reasonable effort should be made to find an organic farmer and that is why we are soliciting letters of interest.  However, if we are not able to find an organic farmer, we intend to sign a long-term lease with a conventional farmer.  It is not prudent to allow the land to be unoccupied and incur additional property maintenance costs at taxpayers’ expense.”

A site visit to the Dairy Farm is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on April 22, 2014.  Responses to the RLOI are due by 3:00 p.m. on May 15, 2014.  If a qualified organic farmer is identified, the sublease with the County will begin on January 1, 2015 for a period of five years with the option to renew for additional periods.
