Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman Provides Update on People’s Community Health Centers Closing

Publish Date: 06/19/2014

Annapolis, Maryland (June 18, 2014) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today released a letter from People’s Community Health Centers, Inc. (PCHC) announcing that they will close their doors on  June 30.

The county received a letter issued by PCHC’s interim chief executive officer late yesterday afternoon stating that they would suspend services citing circumstances out of their control regarding their federal grant and delays in receiving funding.  Last week, the county suspended two grants totaling $1.9 million after conducting an evaluation that revealed financial and business mismanagement concerns.

PCHC’s decision to suspend service will affect two health care sites in Anne Arundel County, one in Brooklyn and one in Odenton.  A third site, funded through local, state and federal grants was to be constructed in Severn.

“Our first priority is to support the efforts of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as they take the lead and plan for a seamless transition to identify a quality health provider to run the two existing sites in our county,” said County Executive Laura Neuman. “We are fully aware of the importance of maintaining access to health care in these communities and we are committed to providing and expanding service to meet the needs of the population.”

The county will provide updates on the situation as they become available.
