Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman Announces May as Building Safety Month

Publish Date: 05/01/2014

Program Will Highlight Efficiency and Fire, Weather and Outdoor Safety

Annapolis, Maryland (May 1, 2014) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced the County will observe Building Safety Month throughout May alongside building departments worldwide.

“My administration is committed to the safety of our citizens in every aspect of life, including the integrity of the buildings where they live, work and play. Recently, we updated the County’s Fire Prevention Code to ensure Anne Arundel’s Construction and Maintenance Codes are as modern as possible for the benefit of our citizens,” said County Executive Laura Neuman. “Throughout Building Safety Month, we are proud to recognize the officials who work tirelessly to keep the built community safe.”

Established in 1980, the annual initiative is sponsored by the International Code Council Foundation (ICCF), and seeks to further the understanding of what it takes to create and maintain safe and sustainable structures while reinforcing the need for current and efficient building codes.

Each week of Building Safety Month – this year themed “Maximizing Resilience, Minimizing Risks” – will highlight a specific aspect of building safety, spanning weather to fire to efficiency and more.

An active member of the International Code Council, Anne Arundel County is proud to support Building Safety Month to ensure the wellbeing of all its residents as it relates to safety at home, school and work.
