Annual Ride Encourages Healthy, Environmentally Friendly Commuting

Annapolis, Maryland (May 14, 2014) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced the county will observe Bike to Work day on Friday, May 16. On the heels of the county’s first-ever Healthy Anne Arundel Month, this opportunity encourages not only a healthier lifestyle, but also a more environmentally friendly commute throughout Central Maryland.

“As we continually work to make our roads and trails safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, I encourage all of our citizens to take advantage of this opportunity to improve their health while reducing traffic and parking congestion and supporting a cleaner environment,” said County Executive Laura Neuman. “We are fortunate to have great trails throughout the county, and we are continuing to expand and improve our trail system to provide residents with alternative ways to travel and enjoy active lifestyles.”

Sponsored by the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, the 17th-annual ride will include a Bike To Work Day Rally at the City Dock Market House in Annapolis from 7:30-9 a.m., during which cyclists can stop by for Bike To Work Day gear, on-the-go snacks and a chance to win prizes. Participants can learn about bike safety, cost savings associated with alternative methods of commuting, personal health and wellness and other benefits of biking to work.
