Anne Arundel County Computer Network Experiencing Intermittent Delays of Progressing Severity

Publish Date: 05/31/2013

System will be shut-down for repairs to be made over the weekend

Annapolis, Maryland (May 30, 2013) — Anne Arundel County Executive Laura Neuman today announced that the County is experiencing severe intermittent delays of its email system.

“The entire County government has been experiencing ongoing and progressing delays with our email system and a number of other applications,” said County Executive Neuman.  “The issues occurring are a result of the lack of commitment and investment to support technology in the County.  The good news is that we are taking steps forward to bring the County’s technology into the 21st century and these issues will be resolved.”

In addition to email, many other County services and applications are being affected.  In order to prevent greater service disruptions to County services and applications, the Office of Information Technology will conduct a critical repair to the system.

Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, May 31st various applications, including the County’s email system will be shut down.  This will allow the server support team to complete back-up of all data supported on the Service Area Network (SAN) and prepare for repairs.

There is a possibility that the system could shut-down on its own, without warning.

The Office of Information Technology hopes that the SAN should be online and functioning properly no later than Sunday.
