County Executive Leopold Announces Dr. Van Oeveren’s Activation in the Army Reserve

Hart will step in as Acting Director

Annapolis (October 30, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold today announced that Health Officer Dr. Edward Van Oeveren has been called up for active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve.

"We are all grateful for Dr. Van Oeveren’s service to our country," County Executive Leopold said. "Doug Hart will serve as acting Health Officer, an assignment he performed capably in the past. We wish Dr. Van Oeveren the best of luck and look forward to his safe return."

Hart came to the Anne Arundel County Department of Health in 1979 and has previously served as the Department’s Deputy Health Officer, Director of Administration and the Human Resources Director. He previously served as Acting Health Officer for five months starting in December 2008. He has extensive experience in budget development.

The change is effective Nov. 2.
