County Executive John R. Leopold Announces Flood Insurance Information Session

Annapolis, Maryland (August 30, 2012) – County Executive John R. Leopold and the Office of Planning and Zoning today announced a flood insurance information session to be held next month.

“This is an important information session for residents who may be affected by recent changes made to Floodplain Maps by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),” stated Mr. Leopold. “The session will help residents better determine whether or not they are located in a flood zone and if they should consider purchasing flood insurance.”

A public information session regarding flood insurance on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Severna Park Middle School located at 450 Jumpers Hole Road in Severna Park. The session is a coordinated effort between the Office of Planning and Zoning, the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), the Maryland Environmental Service (MES), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Representatives from MDE and the County will be in attendance and provide one-on-one assistance from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This information session is most important to those property owners with properties in or within 20 feet of a flood zone. The Office of Planning and Zoning will notify residents with property designations now considered to be within a flood zone (see the attached letter).
