Water Customers in Specific Areas of Anne Arundel County Asked to Conserve Water

Work on Baltimore City Transmission Main Could Affect Pressure

Annapolis, MD (July 9, 2012) — Due to a City of Baltimore 54-inch water main emergency repair project, Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works (DPW) officials are asking customers in the northern and western parts of the County to conserve water beginning Tuesday, July 10, 2012. The damaged pipe is a major supply line to the County and will be replaced by City of Baltimore workers within the next two weeks.

The request to limit water use is based on the loss of water supply from the City of Baltimore, increased water demand during the recent stretch of abnormally hot weather and the need to maintain acceptable water levels for fire suppression. The effected areas served by this main generally include points north of Route 32 and west of Route 10, or north of Route 100 between Route 10 and Interstate 97 (see informational flyer/map attached). Public water users in zip codes 20701, 20724, 20755, 20794, 21054, 21060, 21061, 21076, 21077, 21090, 21108, 21113, 21122, 21144, 21225, 21226 and 21240 are asked to observe the conservation measures listed below.

  • Limit watering of grass until evening or early morning.
  • Limit washing paved surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, decks or parking areas.
  • Avoid washing vehicles (use a car wash that recycles water instead).
  • Take shorter showers.
  • Avoid washing partial loads of laundry or dishes.
  • Inspect and make sure faucets and toilets are not running.

DPW crews are working to limit the loss of water pressure or capacity during repair work.
