County Executive Leopold Signs Golf Partnership with Fort George G. Meade
“Meade Days” at local courses to include free round
Annapolis, MD (May 2, 2012) - County Executive John R. Leopold today signed a partnership agreement with Col. Edward C. Rothstein and Fort George G. Meade that gives military personnel a discounted rate at County golf courses.
Fifty golfers from Fort Meade took advantage of free rounds offered yesterday at Compass Pointe in Pasadena to celebrate the agreement. Attached photos show the signing ceremony with County Executive Leopold, Col. Rothstein, Compass Pointe General Manager Michael Senneca (left) and Recreation and Parks Director Rick Anthony (right).
“This partnership gives the men and women of Fort Meade a new home for golf where they are welcome any time at a reduced rate,” County Executive Leopold said. “We are celebrating the agreement by offering a free round to any personnel who book time at Compass Pointe on May 1 or Eisenhower on May 8. We appreciate any opportunity, large or small, to thank them for their service to our nation.”
The continuing mission growth at Fort Meade has led to the closing of the post’s golf course that was in operation for more than 60 years. Seeking to continue the great condition and recreation for personnel, Col. Rothstein reached out to Anne Arundel County to find suitable locations nearby. Under the agreement between the post and the County, post golf club members will play at reduced rates at Eisenhower Golf Course in Crownsville and Compass Pointe.
“These agreements are an example of the partnerships we have worked hard to develop with our County counterparts,” Col. Rothstein said. “Unfortunately the golf course is a benefit the installation can no longer provide, at least for now. Our County partners have agreed to step in to ensure Team Meade is still able to enjoy the game at a discounted rate."
Eisenhower is an 18-hole, par-71 course originally designed by Ed Ault in 1969. The course features four sets of tees at each hole for players of different skill levels. Compass Pointe is a 36-hole course made up of four nine-hole courses covering 800 acres. The course, designed by Lindsay Ervin in 2003, features a wide variety of terrains built to challenge golfers of all skill levels.
The fees for play at each course are different and depend upon weekday or weekend play. There is an extra discount for enlisted personnel ranking from private to sergeant. A round of golf and a cart on a weekday would cost an enlisted private $29, compared to $45 for other patrons.
Meade personnel can play a FREE round of golf at Eisenhower on May 8 with a valid Department of Defense ID. Please call to book a tee time. You can reach Compass Pointe at 410-255-7764, or Eisenhower at 410-571-0973.
