Early Earthday Celebration
|Yesterday County Executive Leopold, the staff at Arlington Echo and students from Brooklyn Park Elementary School celebrated Earth Day early by planting hundreds of trees in the flood plain behind the Harbor Valley Estates Homeowner's Association. |
Nearly 400 trees and 100 shrubs were planted by the group over the course of the day. Legislation requested by County Executive Leopold was introduced in the Maryland General Assembly two years ago that eliminated a restriction on the use of reforestation money paid by developers. Now law, the initiative makes it possible for the County to proceed with large-scale reforestation projects.
