Anne Arundel County Will Open Two Hours Late

Caution urged for morning commute

Annapolis, MD (January 18, 2011) - Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold announced that County Government Offices will open two hours late today due to inclement weather. Essential employees are expected to report on time.

“Our Public Works crews have been treating the roads overnight,” County Executive Leopold said. “We ask that motorists exercise caution with very slippery conditions, particularly on residential streets.”

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Anne Arundel County that ends at 9 a.m. The Emergency Operations Center is partially activated.

Please remember the following tips for icy conditions:

  • Roadway that appears wet can actually be covered with ice.
  • Allow for extra time during your commute.
  • When encountering ice do not panic and do not stomp on your brakes.
  • Stay off the roads if possible until temperatures rise and salting operations are complete.
  • Maintain a safe following distance on the roadways during slick conditions, maintain low speeds and turn on your lights to increase visibility.
