National Weather Service Confirms Tornado Strike in Lake Shore

Winds were estimated at 80 mph

Annapolis, MD (October 1, 2010) — The National Weather Service confirmed tonight that a tornado hit a neighborhood in Lake Shore during the recent storms, passing within a half mile of Chesapeake High School, Chesapeake Bay Middle and Bodkin Elementary, causing moderate damage to property.

"Thankfully this storm did not cause any serious injuries or deaths," County Executive John R. Leopold said. "Assistance is available for the residents affected."

According to the National Weather Service, the EF-0 tornado with maximum winds of 80 mph, knocked over a sailboat, uprooted trees, pulled shingles off homes and tossed a piece of pool furniture into a stone wall, collapsing the wall.
