County Executive Leopold Invites Public to Attend Sports Heroes Hall of Fame Reception
Display will honor Teixeira, Pastrana, Hallmark and other greats
Annapolis (February 25, 2010) - County Executive John R. Leopold is inviting the public to attend a special reception honoring ten local sports heroes with a special storyboard display.
"Anne Arundel County is proud of its outstanding athletes. Athletic competition teaches participants to win with dignity and lose with respect," County Executive Leopold said. "The playing field provides youth with an excellent opportunity to learn life’s lessons - teamwork, sportsmanship and discipline."
Storyboards featuring biographies of the sports heroes will be on display in the main lobby of the Arundel Center during the March 2 event and for the entire month of March. Coaches and athletes being honored include Theresa Andrews, Louis Carter, Dale Castro, Betty Hallmark, Gary Jobson, Lloyd "Butch" Keaser, Alan Pastrana, Gordon "Babe" Phelps, Mark Teixeira, Brian Wood, Curtis Holland and Jeremy Wright.
Join officials from the County Executive’s Office, the Department of Recreation and Parks and the Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame on National Sportsmanship Day as they celebrate the achievements of the County’s finest athletes: March 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the main lobby of the Arundel Center, 44 Calvert Street, Annapolis, Maryland 21401.
In addition, the Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame will display over eighty plaques featuring Hall of Fame Inductees from 1991 to present during March 2010.
The 19th annual National Sportsmanship Day will be celebrated in more than 14,000 schools throughout the United States and around the world. National Sportsmanship Day is widely recognized as the largest sportsmanship initiative in the world.
