Annapolis (February 8, 2010) – An electrical failure at the Severn Run Pumping Station in Severn caused a wastewater overflow of more than 10,000 gallons yesterday afternoon.
The Department of Health has closed the Severn Run and warned against direct contact with the waterway. The waterway will be reopened when water quality conditions are determined to be acceptable by the Department of Health. People coming in contact with the affected water are advised to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
DPW crews became aware of the overflow at 12 p.m. and contained it 2 p.m.
