County Executive Leopold Invites Citizens to Attend Quiet Waters Park 20th Birthday Celebration
Family friendly event will feature games, contests and entertainment
Annapolis (August 19, 2010) - County Executive John R. Leopold today encouraged the public to attend the 20th Birthday Celebration at Quiet Waters Park on September 4th and 5th.
"Quiet Waters Park is one of our most successful facilities, and I am proud to recognize 20 years of excellence," County Executive Leopold said. "My Administration has worked to enhance the park through improved amenities and services, including the Dog Park and the Ice Rink. Quiet Waters has experienced record-shattering attendance days in the past few years, and it will continue to be a benefit to future generations. The peaceful quiet of this special place provides a restorative respite for thousands of County residents."
The celebration will take place on Saturday, September 4th, from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, September 5th, from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Activities include a 5K Fun Run, Family Fun Festival, Pilgrim & Trout Concert and a birthday celebration concert performed by the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. This morning, County Executive Leopold welcomed Eric May as the 10 Millionth Visitor to the park. He was joined by his two daughters and their pet Boxer, Sally.
Quiet Waters Park opened in September 1990 and is nestled between the South River and Harness Creek in Annapolis and offers a wide variety of activities. Visitors can walk, jog, or bike on over 6 miles of paved trails winding through hardwood forests and past grassy fields, play at the multi-level children’s playground, enjoy the vistas of the South River promenade and scenic overlook, or picnic among 340 acres of beautiful parkland.
The park’s Visitor Center includes formal gardens, art galleries and public restrooms. Pavilions can be rented for large outdoor parties and cook-outs. The park’s indoor facility, Blue Heron Center is available for weddings, parties, and business meetings.
