County Executive Leopold Announces Third Homeless Resource Day will be in Glen Burnie
Event needs volunteers like you
Annapolis (January 27, 2010) - County Executive John R. Leopold announced that the third annual Homeless Resource Day will be held March 27 at Glen Burnie High School.
"Homeless Resource Day has grown each year, and serves an important need in the community in these difficult economic times," County Executive Leopold said. "I encourage private businesses, individuals and nonprofits to join us in providing basic items and services to individuals and families who do not have a job or a place to live."
Last year, over 310 volunteers served 418 homeless individuals and families. More than 45 County agencies and non-profits donated their services and staff to assist the homeless. The Department of Social Services acts as the coordinating agency for the event. Last year sixty photo identification cards and 43 birth certificates were issued along with numerous medical, legal, housing and employment services.
Volunteers are needed to participate and to donate much needed items. Donations of travel size toiletries, socks, underwear, canned food, backpacks, and wipes are needed. More information can be found at the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County’s website, at www.volunteerannearundel.org. Participation by local churches and civic organizations is strongly encouraged.
