Update 8/2/2010 10:44 AM: Department of Health has closed all of Dividing Creek.

Department of Health to Assess Impact on Waterway

Annapolis (August 2, 2010) -- A force main break in the 700 block of Dividing Creek Road in Arnold caused a wastewater overflow of 14,850 gallons yesterday afternoon.  The overflow did reach nearby Dividing Creek.

Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works crews isolated the problem and repaired the main at 6:15 p.m.  Crews also limed and vacuumed the affected area. Signs have been posted along Dividing Creek and door hangers were placed at homes in the area to alert residents of the incident.  The Department of Health and Maryland Department of the Environment have been notified.

The Department of Health is currently assessing the overflow's impact on Dividing Creek. The Department advises people coming in contact with the affected water and ground to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
