County Executive Leopold Calls Community Meeting in Crofton to Discuss Public Safety
Police Chief Teare and Superintendent Maxwell will attend
Annapolis (June 1, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold today called for a community meeting for Wednesday in Crofton to address concerns and questions citizens have about public safety in the area.
The meeting will be held Wednesday night at 7 pm. at the Walden Golf Club, located at 1500 Reidel Road. It follows constituent concerns in the wake of the death of 14-year-old Christopher Jones over the weekend.
"The community has indicated a need to discuss public safety in Crofton after this terrible tragedy," County Executive Leopold said. "Everyone who plays a role in the protection and education of our children will be prepared to listen to individual concerns as well as answer questions. This kind of senseless crime will not be tolerated anywhere in Anne Arundel County. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family members who suffered this tremendous loss."
Police have arrested a 16-year-old male and a 14-year-old male from Crofton in connection with the homicide. The case is still under investigation. Police cannot discuss the case in detail, but commanders who deal with gang activity will join the discussion.
