County Executive Leopold and CAO Callahan receive Pascal Award from County Coaches

Administration made turf fields for student athletes possible

Annapolis (May 28, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold and Chief Administrative Officer Dennis Callahan were presented yesterday with the Bob Pascal award for their commitment to improving playing fields for student athletes.

The two men were among a class of inductees that also included television sportscaster Keith Mills and Broadneck High School Football Coach Jeff Herrick. The annual awards are presented by the Anne Arundel County Coaches Athletic Association.

"It is an honor to be recognized alongside a who’s who of people who have shaped youth athletics in Anne Arundel County," County Executive Leopold said. "These turf fields place our County at the cutting edge of sports technology. They not only enhance the game experience, but lead to fewer injuries and decreased maintenance costs over the years."

So far, the Administration has completed fields at six high schools, including Annapolis, North County, Arundel, Severna Park, Glen Burnie and Meade, for a total investment in State and County aid of about $5.7 million.
