County Executive Leopold Encourages Residents to Attend Housing Expo
Resources include counseling for first-time home buyers
Annapolis (April 16, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold today urged residents to attend the Anne Arundel County Housing Expo this weekend in order to learn about the homeownership resources available to them.
"The current market presents great opportunities for qualified, first-time home buyers. We have historically low interest rates, a buyer’s market, and a number of educational and financial resources to help these buyers get into their first home," County Executive Leopold said.
The County’s housing and community development agency - Arundel Community Development Services, Inc. (ACDS) - is partnering with the Anne Arundel County Association of Realtors (AACAR) and the John Wesley Smith United Methodist Church to host the Expo.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Community Center at Waugh Chapel Village in Gambrills, Maryland.
The Housing Expo will feature exhibits with home listings and information on an array of County, State and Federal programs to help first-time home buyers purchase homes. Information on home renovation programs and how to avoid foreclosure will be available. Workshops will be held throughout the day to educate potential buyers about incentives such as the new $8,000 federal tax credit and how "going Green" can help homeowners save money.
The Expo is free and open to the public. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered. The event is being held in conjunction with the observance of National Fair Housing Month, celebrated annually in April by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
