County Executive Leopold Urges Residents in Need to Take Advantage of Foreclosure Counseling Service
Program fielded 861 calls since July 2007
Annapolis (March 17, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold today urged residents to seek foreclosure counseling from Arundel Community Development Services, Inc. if they are struggling to make payments in this difficult economy.
"Each home and family saved from foreclosure pays deep dividends to the County by stabilizing neighborhoods and property values, but more importantly by protecting families and their children from falling deeper into debt, disrupting school through moves and becoming homeless," County Executive Leopold said. "Counselors answer questions and give direction to the homeowner. They can help navigate refinancing, develop a plan to financial stability and review documents."
Using the $350,000 County Executive Leopold provided for its budget for foreclosure and home ownership counseling, ACDS counselors fielded more than 861 calls to help homeowners in crisis from July 2007 to December 2008. Last year, they helped craft 347 plans of action for residents in need of help.
