Forcemain break causes wastewater spill

Overflow does not impact Lake Hillsmere

Annapolis (April 9, 2009) - A forcemain break in the 100 block of Mansion Road in Hillsmere caused a wastewater overflow of approximately 13 thousand gallons this afternoon.

Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works crews isolated the problem quickly, repaired the main at 1:45 p.m. and limed and vacuumed the affected area. The County Department of Health has made an assessment and noted that Lake Hillsmere was not impacted by the spill.

The Department of Health advises people coming in contact with the affected ground to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
