County Executive Leopold Orders Tactical Response to Crofton Safety Concerns

Operation A.C.T.I.O.N calls for increased police presence

Annapolis (June 3, 2009) - County Executive John R. Leopold today announced that the Anne Arundel Police Department will conduct operation ACTION in the coming weeks to crack down on delinquent juvenile behavior in Crofton.

ACTION stands for Actively Combating Trouble In Our Neighborhoods. The operation is in response to heightened community concerns about criminal activity in the Greater Crofton Area, including the fatal attack on 14-year-old Christopher Jones recently.

"Christopher’s death is a terrible tragedy that has united the entire community," County Executive Leopold said. "Such a senseless act of violence requires a law enforcement response, but also a reexamination of how we can empower parents to stem this kind of crime before it occurs."

The purpose of the operation is to effectively present a law enforcement response within designated communities in the Western District due to an increased level of citizen complaints regarding criminal and gang activities. Activities will include a high profile police presence in the community to enforce laws, gather intelligence and share information.
